The second largest rodent in the world (after South America's capybara), the beaver's name is synonymous with hard work, due to its incredibly industrious nature. The dams, canals and lodges (homes made out of sticks and mud) that they build create a colony safe from predators. A nocturnal herbivore, the beaver can live for as long as 24 years in its natural habitat.
