This is the charm domain of all things mystical and magical, spooky, spine-chilling and Halloween themed. The origins of Halloween are not fully understood; the word is Christian, but this annual celebration is believed to have Pagan roots and be linked to the Gaelic Samhain festival. Samhain marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter, a time for taking stock and preparing for the 'dark half of the year'. Livestock would be brought back from summer pastures, bonfires would be lit and rituals would be carried out to summon the souls of the dead. Folklore has it that harmful spirits and fairies were also present at Samhain and it is believed that costumes and masks were originally worn to disguise a wearer's identity and keep them safe from harm.
